Good-bye Kansas; Hello Colorado

  Good-bye Kansas; Hello Colorado:

This morning's sunrise in Wakeeney Kansas didn't disappoint

We think of Kansas as flat and indeed it is --- but it's really an inclined plane that gains in altitude from east to west.  Incredibly, the town of Kanorado, just a couple of miles from the Colorado border on I-70, has been designated the "Top City" of Kansas at an elevation of 3,907 feet - dwarfing the elevation of many peaks in New England.

Still, the drive was more of the same - miles and miles of barely changing landscape.

We took a break in the town of Goodland, KS, boasting the "world's largest easel", a reproduction of Vincent Van Gogh's "Sunflowers".

Tomorrow....Colorado Springs!

  1. Great pics Chris! Keep them coming. Something about the west, it's vastness, always makes me imagine it as it was before we arrived.

    1. Hi, Chris! I know what you mean - I keep thinking I'll see a buffalo stampede or something come over the hill (where there are hills, that is!)
