Springfield, Illinois - Lincoln Museum
Lincoln Presidential Museum: Today took us into Springfield, Illinois, Abraham Lincoln’s home prior to his presidency, as well as his burial site at Oak Ridge Cemetery. We toured the Lincoln Museum , adjacent to the Lincoln Presidential Library. Using dioramas and multi-media displays, the museum impressively provides a journey through President Lincoln's life from his early years through his death. One video presents the 1860 presidential election as it might be depicted in the modern media, with commentator Tim Russert narrating. Of special interest in the museum, however, was a solemn and thought-provoking temporary exhibit, " Stories of Survival: Object, Image, Memory ": As described in the museum's website, it is " a traveling exhibit from the Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center that showcases more than 60 personal items brought to America by Survivors of the Holocaust and genocide.
